A Grayson County man with an arrest and conviction history of burglary and crimes of violence has again been accused of burglary.

Matthew Breeden, 26, of Leitchfield, was arrested by the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office on an indictment warrant out of Grayson County charging him with third-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief, both class D felonies.

Breeden is being held in the Grayson County Detention Center on two bonds totaling $20,000.

Previous arrests and convictions

In 2024, Breeden was accused of strangling a woman multiple times and endangering the welfare of her small child.

He was indicted in June 2024 by a Grayson County Grand Jury on first-degree strangulation (a class C felony), endangering the welfare of a minor, fleeing or evading police (on foot), resisting arrest, and second-degree persistent felony offender.

The indictment stemmed from an incident on Saturday, January 6, 2024, when then Grayson County Deputies Caleb Owens and Andy Cast were dispatched at approximately 11:30 p.m. to a violent domestic disturbance on North Patterson Street in Clarkson.

Upon arriving at the scene, the female victim said Breeden had been staying with her but that she asked him to leave because she believed he was on drugs, according to the arrest citation.

When the victim asked Breeden to leave, he “put his hands on her” and began strangling her until she couldn’t breathe. The victim told police Breeden strangled her multiple times, even when she was holding her one-year-old child, the citation states.

The victim, police said, had “visible injuries.”

Breeden fled the scene prior to police arriving, but at approximately midnight that night, deputies attempted to serve an EPO on Breeden at a home on West Chestnut Street in Leitchfield. As police spoke with the person who answered the door, Breeden attempted to flee, as he jumped out of a window in the back of the residence.

Cast quickly caught Breeden, as the suspect resisted arrest.

Breeden, according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections (KDC), was convicted in Grayson County in November 2024 for second-degree strangulation, a class D felony.

Additionally, according to the KDC, he was twice convicted in Grayson County in 2023 — In February 2023, Breeden was convicted of third-degree burglary and in May 2023 for possession of methamphetamine.

The 2023 Grayson County convictions were the result of the Greater Hardin County Narcotics Task Force arresting Breeden in January 2023 at a Commerce Drive residence. Breeden was wanted after absconding from parole on two burglary charges in Boone County. During a search of the Commerce Drive residence, police found methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Breeden was convicted in Boone County in February 2023 for third-degree burglary, according to the KDC.
