A student has been charged with making a threat toward Mayfield Middle School.

Mayfield Independent Schools Superintendent Billy Edwards said on Thursday in a social media post that officials “were made aware of a threat by a Mayfield Middle School student.”

The Mayfield Police Department said it was informed of the threat at 6:10 Thursday morning.

“Mayfield Police officers quickly identified, located, and detained the suspected juvenile,” Mayfield police said.

The 11-year-old male suspect, a student at the school, was interviewed by police, resulting in the boy’s arrest. He was charged with second-degree terroristic threatening, a class D felony. The suspect was lodged in a juvenile detention center.

“Mayfield Independent School systems were kept informed during the stages of the investigation,” Mayfield police said, “and officers will continue to work with the schools to ensure safety for students and staff.”
