A suspect with a history of assault and drug charges has been arrested for assaulting a Caneyville firefighter.

The incident occurred Sunday morning at approximately 8:50 when the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Caneyville Fire Department and EMS were dispatched the 400 block of Morgantown Street (Hwy 79) on the report of a vehicle hitting multiple mailboxes. The driver, according to the arrest citation, was “unconscious in the driver’s seat.”

The Caneyville Fire Department was first on scene. The citation states that the driver, 27-year-old Victor C. Neal, of Morgantown, “was unconscious and he (a Caneyville firefighter) noticed what appeared to be a partial smoked marijuana cigarette in the driver’s hand.”

The firefighter then reached inside the vehicle “and put the car into park and shut the vehicle off.”

The firefighter woke the driver who became “combative and ended up biting one of the fireman’s fingers,” breaking through the skin.

The fireman was transported to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center.

When the sheriff’s office arrived at the scene, Neal displayed “bloodshot eyes and appeared disoriented,” the citation states.

Neal was arrested and charged with third-degree assault (EMS, fire, rescue squad), DUI and possession of marijuana. He was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

Suspect indicted at least three times since 2016

Neal, according to the Beech Tree News, was indicted in Butler County in October 2024 for first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, two counts of fourth-degree assault, intimidating a participant in the legal process, and first-degree persistent felony offender.

In May 2017, Neal was indicted in Butler County for possession of synthetic drugs, tampering with physical evidence and first-degree promoting contraband first degree

In July 2016, he was indicted in Butler County for possession of synthetic drugs, DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia, and improper equipment.
