The Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) voted on Wednesday afternoon to implement a 35-second shot clock in basketball beginning with the 2027-28 season.
The measure passed by a 13–5 vote following a statewide survey of member schools.
In the 3rd Region, schools voted 9–4 in favor of tabling the decision for two years, preferring to wait for further national guidance. Those in favor of delaying included Grayson County, Apollo, Breckinridge County, Cloverport, Edmonson County, Hancock County, McLean County, Meade County, and Owensboro.
Butler County, Daviess County, Owensboro Catholic, and Whitesville Trinity voted in support of adopting the shot clock as soon as the 2026–27 season.
The KHSAA is expected to release more information on the implementation in the coming weeks.
