Leggett & Platt is closing a Kentucky plant.

The company, which, in September 2023 employed 179 people at its Leitchfield plant, announced it was closing its Georgetown Adjustable Bed plant, WKYT.com reported earlier this afternoon.

“In a WARN letter, the company said the closure is due to ‘difficult business conditions’ and is aimed at enhancing operational efficiency,” WKYT.com reports.

The Georgetown plant closure will result in the loss of 122 jobs.

The Lexington television station stated in its story: “The first round of layoffs is scheduled to begin around November 10, with all separations completed by the end of the first quarter of 2026.”

As K105 reported on January 25, 2024, on January 11, 2024, Leggett & Platt’s Board of Directors approved a company restructuring plan that included the elimination of 900-1,000 jobs and the closing of multiple facilities.

“Leggett & Platt is implementing a restructuring plan primarily focused on our Bedding Products business but also includes activity within our Home Furniture business, and specifically at our Omega Motion facility in Saltillo, Mississippi,” Cassie Branscum, Vice President of Investor Relations, previously told K105.

Branscum noted that the “facility in Leitchfield will remain open.”

“This plan is intended to better align our business with an evolving competitive landscape and position our company for profitable growth,” Branscum added. “As part of these initiatives, we are consolidating our manufacturing footprint to better align capacity with regional demand and enhance our efficiency.”

The Leitchfield plant is located at 435 Ed Embry Drive.

Leggett & Platt was founded in 1883 by J.P. Leggett and C.B. Platt in Carthage, Missouri, as Leggett developed the idea for a spiral steel coil bedspring and partnered with Platt to form the company. The duo patented the bedsprings in 1885. The company, according to its website, was incorporated in 1901.
