
Kay Fentress Stanton, 83, of Leitchfield, passed away September 16, 2025, at Norton Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Louisville, following a brief illness with leukemia. She was born on February 6, 1942, in Rock Island, Illinois, the daughter of the late Robert and Frances Crosby Fentress.
Mrs. Stanton was a graduate of Leitchfield High School. After raising her three sons, she pursued higher education, earning a nursing degree from Elizabethtown Community College, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Western Kentucky University. She later completed training as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Her career included service as a staff nurse in local hospitals, school nurse in Grayson County School system, and director of the Grayson County Health Department.
A veteran of the Kentucky Army National Guard, Mrs. Stanton was deployed multiple times in support of state and national missions, including Desert Storm, where she served as a nurse with the 475 th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH). She retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Bland, in 2014.
Survivors include her three sons, Clark Stanton of Clarkson, Mark Stanton (Jackie) of Leitchfield, and Stephen Stanton of Louisville; and her granddaughter, Margolo Stanton of Leitchfield.
Visitation will be held at Dermitt Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2025, and from 10:00 a.m. Sunday, September 28, 2025 until time of services at 2:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Dermitt Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery.
