A young woman who fatally shot her father has been cleared of charges.
Adkins then called 911 and told a dispatcher that she had killed her father, according to the Prestonsburg Police Department.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Harvey deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. He was “sitting in a chair,” police said.
Adkins was arrested and charged with murder.
“There was a discussion or a disagreement prior to the shooting — immediately prior to the shooting — and she, by her own admission, did shoot and kill her father,” Prestonsburg Police Chief Ross Shurtleff told WYMT.com.
During a hearing a week after her arrest, Adkins told the court she was sexually abused by Harvey when she was a child and she feared he would commit the same crimes against her young niece, WYMT.com reports
During a grand jury hearing on the matter on Wednesday, where investigators and members of the family testified, a Floyd County Grand Jury returned a No True Bill (did not indict).
In fact, there were no votes to indict. In Kentucky, nine of 12 grand jurors must vote to indict to return a True Bill (indict) against the suspect, according to Kentucky Revised Statute 29A.200.
