The Grayson County Cougar Cross Country teams completed their fourth race of the season Saturday, September 20, at the annual Gatorland Run at Phil Moore Park in Bowling Green, hosted by Greenwood High School. Under sunny skies and warm temperatures, nearly 500 runners competed in the boys’ and girls’ varsity 5K races.
As a team, the Cougars finished ninth out of 27 schools with 249 points. The Lady Cougars finished 13th out of 19 schools with 336 points.
The girls’ 5K kicked off the event, with freshman Jessy Smith leading the way for the Lady Cougars. Smith finished 40th out of 220 runners with a time of 22:29, her third consecutive 5K personal best time this season.
Freshman Levi Masden highlighted the Cougars in the boys’ 5K race, finishing 15th out of 265 runners with a time of 17:30. This was Masden’s 4th consecutive podium finish this season.
The Cougar Cross Country team will travel to Bardstown on Saturday, September 27, for the 27th Annual Hillbilly Run at Thomas Nelson High School. This will be a key race for the Cougars, as that course will serve as the host for the Region 2 AAA Championship Meet later this season.
