A woman has been arrested after shooting at federal law enforcement officers.
Kentucky State Police is investigating the incident, which occurred Wednesday afternoon in Perry County, at the request of the DEA.
State police said the early stages of the investigation indicate that a DEA Task Force, consisting of officers from multiple agencies, was at a residence on Scuddy Mountain Road, about 12 miles southeast of Hazard.
The task force, which is investigating drug activity in the region, had earlier arrested a man at the residence.
“Shortly before 1:00 p.m., as the officers were finishing up and preparing to leave the scene, a female emerged from the residence armed with a firearm,” state police said.
The woman, 30-year-old Ashley Lewis-Begley, began shooting at agents, striking a vehicle containing two DEA agents, a Hazard Police Dept./DEA drug task force member and a Perry County deputy.
The suspect was commanded to drop the weapon, which she did, state police said.
Lewis-Begley was arrested and charged with four counts of attempted murder of a federal law enforcement officer and lodged in Laurel County Corrections. According to the jail website, she was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service.
The investigation is ongoing and is being led by the KSP Critical Incident Response Team.
