
The Grayson County Cougar Cross Country teams completed their fifth race of the season on Saturday, September 27 at the 27th annual Hillbilly Run in Bardstown, KY, hosted by Thomas Nelson High School.
The Cougars got a preview of the regional championship course, as Thomas Nelson will serve as host for the Region 2 AAA Championship Meet in late October.
As a team, the Cougars finished 10th out of 34 teams with 326 points. The Lady Cougars placed 19th out of 23 teams with 440 points.
The day started with the boys’ junior varsity 5K, where sophomore Hayden Snyder ran out front for the Cougars. Snyder finished 24th out of 162 runners with a personal best time of 19:46. Freshman Landon Fulkerson also ran a personal best with a time of 22:23.
In the girls’ varsity 5K, freshman Jessy Smith once again led the Lady Cougars, finishing 65th out of 242 runners. Sophomore Sophie Butler ran a personal best time of 29:16.
Freshman Levi Masden paced the Cougars in the boys’ varsity 5K, running a personal best time of 17:06. Masden also extended his streak of podium finishes this season to five, placing 13th out of 272 runners.
The Cougar harriers travel to Yellow Creek Park in Owensboro on Saturday, October 4, for the Daviess County Classic, hosted by Daviess County High School. Events get underway at 9:00 AM with the girls’ varsity 5K.
