A woman has been charged with killing a man who was “a good neighbor to her.”
Kentucky State Police said Rockcastle County deputies responded Sunday morning at 3:00 to Disputanta Road, near Mt. Vernon, to follow up on a missing person complaint.
Upon arriving at the scene, state police said deputies discovered human remains concealed beneath a tarp and other objects in the yard outside the residence.
The body was identified as 60-year-old Timothy H. King, who had been reported missing by concerned family members.
The ensuing Kentucky State Police investigation resulted in the arrest of King’s neighbor, 40-year-old Tausha F. Mejia, of Mt. Vernon.
She was charged with murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, abuse of a corpse, receiving stolen property, and tampering with physical evidence.
Neighbors told police that King would often help Mejia.
“He just helped her. She was somebody who needed assistance from time to time and he was probably a good neighbor to her,” Trooper Scottie Pennington told WYMT.com.
Pennington added that the autopsy showed that King had been deceased “about a week.”
Mejia was lodged in the Rockcastle County Detention Center on a $1 million cash bond. Police said additional charges are possible.
