An injured hunter has been rescued near the Hardin-Nelson County line.
Nelson County Emergency Management (NCEM) said Nelson Co. deputies, the Rolling Fork Fire Department and Kentucky Fish & Wildlife personnel were dispatched to search for a missing hunter on Wednesday evening at approximately 8:20 near Shady Lane, off Bardstown Road (Hwy 62), in Boston.
Search and rescue crews used a drone in the search “because of the size of the search area,” NCEM said in a social media post. A UTV was also utilized in the search.
After 90 minutes, drone pilots spotted the injured hunter roughly ¾ of a mile off the roadway and directed the search team to his location. Thirty minutes later, the rescue team arrived at the extraction point where the injured hunter was transported by EMS to Boston School, on Wilson Creek Road, where he was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital.
“We would like to express our gratitude to all the responding agencies for their professionalism and hard work in demanding conditions,” NCEM said. “Nelson County Dispatch was instrumental in the success of the mission by handling all the radio traffic from multiple agencies over several hours.”
