Two people were killed and a nine-year-old was seriously injured in an eastern Kentucky crossover crash.

Kentucky State Police said troopers responded to the accident on Tuesday afternoon at approximately 3:50 near the 47-mile marker of the Mountain Parkway in Wolfe County.

The state police investigation showed that 58-year-old Robby Burchett, of Flat Gap (Johnson Co.), was traveling east in a Town & Country minivan when he crossed the center line into the path of a westbound Hyundai Elantra, being driven by 32-year-old Russell Sowers, of Summerfield, Florida.

Burchett was transported to St. Claire Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. His passenger, 56-year-old Robbin Burchett, of Paintsville, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Wolfe County Coroner’s Office.

Sowers and his three passengers were transported to Morgan County Appalachian Regional Hospital, where Sowers is listed in critical condition. A passenger, 27-year-old Katelyn Harmon, of Salyersville, was pronounced deceased at the scene, state police said.

Two juveniles in Sowers’ vehicle were injured, as a two-year-old suffered only minor injuries and is in stable condition. A nine-year-old, though, sustained serious injuries and is currently listed in critical condition.

The collision remains under investigation by Trooper Jordan Barnett.
