Elizabethtown Community and Technical College (ECTC) was recently bestowed a $1.3 million TRIO Student Support Services grant from the U.S. Department of Education to expand services to the college’s Leitchfield and Springfield campuses.

TRIO Student Support Services SSS is a federally funded program that provides academic, personal, and financial support to assist low-income, first-generation, and students with disabilities succeed in college. Services include tutoring, mentoring, financial aid assistance, career counseling, and workshops to improve retention and graduation rates.

“We know that sometimes the hardest thing for students who need TRIO services is just asking for help,” ECTC TRIO SSS Director Breanna Phillips said. “By offering a program at our extended campuses, students will have much easier access to our services.”

The grant will enable ECTC to hire a program director who will have a presence at the Springfield and Leitchfield campuses. It also allows for a tutor at each campus and an administrative assistant.

“By earning this grant, we can expand our reach,” Phillips said. “We look forward to providing TRIO’s meaningful services to even more students and helping them on their path to success.”
