A Leitchfield man convicted of multiple felonies and who absconded from parole has been arrested on several charges after fleeing a state trooper.

Kentucky State Police arrested 37-year-old Wallace L. Mercer on Thursday morning at approximately 11:00 after a trooper spotted Mercer driving a Toyota Camry west on Beaver Dam Road (Hwy 62), just outside the Leitchfield city limits, according to the arrest citation.

The trooper, who knew Mercer had warrants for his arrest, attempted to stop the suspect but Mercer accelerated to 75 miles per hour as he continued to flee west on Beaver Dam Road.

Wallace then “turned right onto the road he lives on” and came to an “abrupt stop,” before fleeing the trooper on foot into a wooded area.

The trooper gave chase and yelled at Wallace he was “not going to stop pursing him,” the citation states. Wallace eventually “stopped from exhaustion” and was arrested.

He was charged with two counts of fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle, on foot), careless driving and driving on a revoked/suspended operator’s license. He was also served with a parole violation warrant and a failure to appear warrant.

Mercer was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

Mercer, according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections, was convicted in Grayson County in March 2023 for trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and unlawful distribution of a methamphetamine precursor.

In April 2024, he was convicted in Edmonson County for flagrant non-support.
