Grayson County Fiscal Court approved four appointments to the newly created Leitchfield-Grayson County Economic Development Board.

The formation of an economic development board was initially approved by Fiscal Court in March, with the Leitchfield City Council approving the formation of the seven-member board in September. The board will be comprised of three Fiscal Court appointments, three City Council appointments and Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center CEO Ashley Herrington.

Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson said in March about the economic development board:

The board’s focus will be on job creation; to establish more and better job opportunities in the community; to support business growth; and to retain both new and existing businesses.

The board will also improve infrastructure projects such as roads, utilities and public spaces, and will facilitate the adoption of new technologies and innovations. The new board will additionally work closely with our school system to identify the skills/trades that our businesses need taught at our tech center.

At Thursday’s Fiscal Court, magistrates approved the appointments of attorneys Darren Embry and Mike Shull, along with the former president of a local company, Homeland Inc., David Zurmehly, to the economic development board.

Embry is a managing partner with EMWN Law, which has offices in Lexington, Leitchfield and New York, while Shull is with Frost Brown Todd Attorneys, a large law firm with 18 offices around the country, including in Louisville.

As a formality, magistrates approved the selection of Herrington to the board. She was appointed due to the financial stake the hospital has in the board’s development and continued existence.

The Leitchfield City Council is expected to soon vote on that body’s proposed board appointments.
