The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office will soon begin collecting 2025 property taxes.
The sheriff’s office, at 117 South Main Street in Leitchfield, will begin accepting tax payments on November 1.
The sheriff’s office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and in November the office will be open on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. until noon.
The new sheriff’s office location also offers a convenient drive-thru window where one may remit tax payments. Property taxes can also be paid online at www.gcsheriff.net.
“If payments are mailed and a receipt is needed, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope,” Sheriff Norman Chaffins said. “If you wish to opt out of the fire & rescue dues you must include the OPT-OUT form with your payment.”
The opt-out form may be obtained by calling the sheriff’s office at 270-259-3024, or residents may download the form from the sheriff’s office website.
Tax collection discount/penalty dates:
- Receive a two percent discount if one pays during the month of November.
- Pay the face amount of the property tax if one pays in the month of December.
- Receive a five percent penalty if one pays in January 2026.
- Receive a 21 percent penalty if one pays between February 1, 2026, and April 15, 2026.
After April 15, delinquent tax bills are turned over to the Grayson County Court Clerk for collection, Chaffins noted.
All tax bills should be mailed on October 30 or 31. Residents should receive the bill in the first week of November.
If one does not receive the bill by November 11, Chaffins said to contact the sheriff’s office.
