Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky (PCAK) has awarded Rep. Samara Heavrin with its annual Legislative/Policy Award for her work as Chair of the House Families and Children committee and helping to pass House Bill 805.
Each year PCAK recognizes elected officials who champion the safety, protection, and well-being of Kentucky’s children and families through their policy leadership, the organization said.
“By working hand-in-hand with leaders like Representative Heavrin, we are advancing policies that protect children, strengthen families, and create safer Kentucky communities,” said Jill Seyfred, Executive Director of Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky. “Her dedication shows that real progress is possible when we unite around a shared commitment to support every child in Kentucky.”
House Bill 805 passed as part of another measure and implemented sweeping reforms to child welfare in Kentucky.
Heavrin, R-Leitchfield, whose efforts clarified safety planning, expanded protections for children at risk of abuse or neglect, and strengthened accountability in child welfare investigations, advanced the safety and well-being of children and families across the commonwealth, according to PCAK.
“Protecting Kentucky’s children is one of our most important responsibilities,” said Heavrin, Chair of the House Children and Families Committee. “With House Bill 805, we strengthened oversight, accountability, and consistency within our child welfare system to ensure no child is overlooked. I’m proud to partner with Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky and remain committed to advancing policies that safeguard children and give families the support they need to thrive.”
