The U.S. Senate on Thursday confirmed Leitchfield native Chad Meredith, who was nominated by former President Donald Trump in June, to serve as a federal judge in Kentucky’s Eastern District.
The confirmation passed on a 52-45 vote, primarily along party lines with two Democrats and one Republican abstaining.
“Congratulations to my friend and fellow Kentuckian Chad Meredith on his confirmation to serve as a district judge for the Eastern District of Kentucky,” said Senator Mitch McConnell, who recommended Meredith to the White House. “Chad’s impressive legal background in the private sector and devotion to serving the public make him an excellent addition to the federal bench. His thoughtfulness and commitment to our Constitution will serve him well as he carries out his new duties.”
Meredith’s father, state Sen. Steve Meredith, R-Leitchfield, said he’s “Bursting with pride!” in a social media post earlier this year.
“So happy our son, Chad, to realize a dream he has worked so hard for,” the state senator said.”Dreams do come true; especially when you commit your life to it. Congratulations, Chad!”
In a social media post announcing the nomination, Trump called Meredith “highly experienced and well qualified.”
“Chad is a courageous Patriot who knows what is required to uphold the Rule of Law, and protect our Constitution,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The Eastern District of Kentucky covers a wide area from northern Kentucky through the state’s Appalachian region, including the 4th, 5th, and 6th congressional districts.
