A teenager changing a tire pushed his girlfriend out of the way just before being struck on the side of the Cumberland Parkway.
The incident happened on Tuesday, October 14 at approximately 11:30 a.m. near the 82-mile marker of the eastbound parkway in Pulaski County when 19-year-old Cody Cahall was changing a flat tire.
Cahall, according to WKYT.com, pushed his fiancé out of the way just prior to him being struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene.
Cahall suffered a broken shoulder and a laceration that went to the bone, according to Cahall’s aunt, Kelsey Beauchemin, who started a GoFundMe account that’s raising money for hospital bills. He also suffered three broken ribs, a collapsed lung, broken hips and pelvis, and a lacerated spleen.
He was airlifted to University of Kentucky Medical Center where he remains.
Cahalls’ fiancé was not injured.
Kentucky State Police is investigating the incident. Little is known about the vehicle that struck Cahall, except that it was traveling east.
