
One man is dead and another is charged with manslaughter following a deadly fight in Union County.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office said the altercation between two men and a woman occurred on October 19 at an apartment building on Hwy 60 near Sturgis.
One of the men, 64-year-old Monty Hollis, of Sturgis, was transported to Union County Deaconess Hospital before being transferred to Deaconess Midtown.
Hollis died on Wednesday morning.
“Autopsy results reveal Hollis died as a result of Injuries consistent with those he received during the assault on October 19,” the sheriff’s office said.
The investigation led police to arrest of 51-year-old Ronald L. Cummings, of Sturgis, where he was charged with second-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, first-degree burglary, and fourth-degree assault.
He’s being held in the Webster County Jail on a $500,000 cash bond.
