A Bee Spring man newly released from jail has been arrested for fleeing from and fighting with deputies and violating an emergency protective order (EPO).
Cory J. Burns, 38, of Bee Spring, was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center on October 18 for violating an EPO/DVO and obstruction/interference of an officer. He was released a few days later.
On Friday, October 24, Burns was accused of violating an EPO, this time in Edmonson County.
While Edmonson County deputies were en route to where the EPO violation was taking place, they spotted Burns in a vehicle leaving the area, the arrest citation states, according to a report by WNKY.com. When police attempted to stop Burns on Nolin Dam Road, he fled onto Stone Hill Road where he ditched the vehicle and fled into a shed.
Deputies deployed a K-9 officer and entered the shed where Burns resisted officers, resulting in the suspect being tased, WNKY.com reports. Burns continued to fight, though, as both the suspect and law enforcement personnel suffered injuries.
Following medical clearance, Burns was lodged in the Hart County Jail and charged with third-degree assault of a police officer, felony wanton endangerment of a police officer, two counts of fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle/on foot), resisting arrest, violating an EPO/DVO, menacing, and second-degree disorderly conduct. He was also served with a parole violation warrant.
Arrest/conviction history
According to the Kentucky Department of Corrections, Burns was convicted in Edmonson County in 2022 for disarming a peace officer, third-degree assault of a police/probation officer, both class D felonies, and harboring a vicious animal. He’s on probation until September 2027.
Burns, according to online records, has an extensive arrest history dating to at least 2014, when he was charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident in Edmonson County. Five years later, he was arrested in Warren County by Kentucky State Police and charged with assaulting a police/probation officer, third-degree escape, resisting arrest, and fleeing or evading police (on foot).
