
The Grayson County Cougar Cross Country teams finished their seasons on Saturday, November 1 at the KHSAA State Championships at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY. Over 500 runners competed in the boys and girls 3A championship races.
The morning began with the boys 3A championship 5K, where freshman Levi Masden led the way for the Cougars. Masden finished 79th out of 283 runners. Masden’s time of 17:29 was nearly one minute faster than his 2024 state championship time. Sophomore Eli Moore finished the race in 18:10, placing 136th. Moore, the only other Cougar with state championship meet experience, improved on his 2023 championship time by 38 seconds. Overall, the Cougars finished 27th out of 36 teams with 700 points.
The boys 3A individual championship was won by Paul Van Laningham of Cooper with a time of 15:01. The 3A team championship was won by Lafayette High School with 56 points.
In the 3A girls championship 5K, the Lady Cougars were represented by freshmen Jessy Smith and Reagan Coffey. Smith finished 185th out of 269 runners with a time of 22:48. Coffey crossed the finish line in 23:19, placing 207th.
For the third consecutive year, the girls 3A individual championship was won by Addison Moore of Woodford County with a time of 17:38. The 3A team championship was won by Assumption with 129 points.
The Cross Country Teams will close out the year with their annual awards banquet on December 7.
