A western Kentucky man has been sentenced after being found guilty of murdering two people.

Kentucky State Police said investigators responded on December 9, 2021, to the report of an abandoned vehicle containing a deceased female, 34-year-old Candace Marcell, of Hopkinsville, on Cerulean Road (Hwy 124) in rural Trigg County.

The investigation into Marcel’s death led detectives to her residence on Clearman Court in Hopkinsville.  A search warrant was executed at the home where police located a deceased male, 35-year-old Stanley Bussell, also of Hopkinsville.

Bussell, state police said, was the registered owner of the vehicle Marcel was found in.

The Hopkinsville Police Department began investigating Bussell’s death as a homicide.

As a result of both investigations, Hopkinsville police arrested 49-year-old Bobby Spikes, of Hopkinsville, and charged him with Bussell’s murder. Further investigation led state police to charge Spikes with Marcel’s murder.

Spikes, following a four-day trial in Christian County, was found guilty on two counts of murder, two counts of first-degree robbery, tampering with physical evidence, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

Spikes, now 53, was formally sentenced on Wednesday to life in prison with no possibility of parole.
