An Elizabethtown man has been sentenced after kidnapping a woman, locking her in closet and assaulting her with coat hangers and a crutch among other items.
Brendon W. Houk, 25, was sentenced to 40 years in prison last week in a Hardin County courtroom.
He was arrested in October 2024 and charged with kidnapping (adult), second-degree assault (domestic violence), first-degree unlawful imprisonment, and tampering with physical evidence.
As K105 previously reported, Houk’s arrest came after he held a female against her will, handcuffed the victim to a pole in a utility closet and beat her with a crutch, a small pole and coat hangers, according to a report by The News-Enterprise. He also gagged the woman by shoving a sock in her mouth at a residence on Airview Drive in Elizabethtown.
The victim, who eventually freed herself, was transported to Baptist Health Hardin for treatment of multiples cuts to her face, head, hands, wrists, and legs. She displayed bruising all over her body.
During a search of the residence where the assault took place, police located bloody clothing, blood on the floors, and bloody towels and socks.
In exchange for a guilty plea, Houk was sentenced to 20 years on the kidnapping count, 10 years for second-degree assault, five years for second-degree strangulation, and five years for tampering with physical evidence.
The prison terms will be served consecutively with the possibility of parole after he serves 20 percent of the sentence, The News-Enterprise reports.
