A sheriff’s office in western Kentucky is warning high school seniors to not participate in a potentially dangerous, yet popular game called “Senior assassin.”

According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, some seniors are participating in the game in which students “assassinate” or eliminate their target, a fellow participating student, by squirting them with a water gun within a given time period.

“It has been reported that some seniors have entered vehicles, homes and other property, have engaged in speeding, reckless driving, and other activities that can be dangerous and can at times be constituted as criminal activity,” Union Co. Sheriff Jason Thomas said in a social media post. “… I must put my foot down, and hard, on activities that potentially endanger not only innocent bystanders but also the participants themselves in this supposed ‘game.’”

The sheriff’s office noted that violators will be prosecuted.

“Let it be known the Union County Sheriff’s Office will not accept ‘but this is just a game’ when we prosecute someone for a crime committed in the name of playing said game,” Thomas said.

Some parents have taken action to police their students, as Thomas warns other parents to “not complain” if the deputies “handle it on our end.”

“If you cannot, or will not handle it on your end,” Thomas said, “then do not complain when the UCSO handles it on our end. I can’t be more plain. This is not intended as a threat but as purely informational so there is no nuance and no confusion. Kids are kids and will make poor choices as such. It is the adults in their lives they count on for guidance. Don’t let them down now.”

Thomas said that deputies are investigating incidents involving the game “and will very possibly be in touch with some of you and your children soon.”
