Dale Owen Whitmore, age 77, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Tuesday, (December 9, 2025) peacefully at his home. He was born on July 23, 1948 in Henderson, KY, the son of the late Fred and Elvera Buchanan Whitmore.

Dale loved nothing more than a good game of basketball with Wes and his friends. He was a true family man who cherished every moment as a papaw. A true social butterfly, he could strike up a conversation with anyone and was well-known around town as a frequent visitor of every grocery store and bank.

He proudly claimed the title of “shopaholic,” always on the hunt for a bargain. He enjoyed playing cards, listening to music, and cheering on the University of Kentucky. He also had a soft spot for casino trips, thrift-store treasure hunts and trying out new places to eat. Above all, his happiest days were spent boating on Rough River.

He was a member of the Leitchfield United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda of 57 years; his son, Wes Whitmore (Brittany), three grandchildren, Carter, Griffin, and Hayes; two brothers, Fred Whitmore (Mildred) of Louisville, Roger Whitmore (Beverly) of Henderson, one sister, Anna Grace Lovell (Dan) of Henderson; a special brother in law, Deurona “DC” Clayton of Henderson and a sister in law, Charlene Whitmore of Lexington. Several special nieces and nephews also survive, including the pallbearers, David, Brad, Damon, Eric, Whitney, Julie, Jimmy, and Paul.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant child, Starling Brook; a brother, Michael Whitmore; a sister, Margaret “Maggie” Clayton; and a sister in law, Diana Whitmore.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, (December 14, 2025) at the Leitchfield United Methodist Church in Leitchfield. Dr. Dan Lovell aka “Uncle Dan,” and Rev. Jordan Hunter will be officiating. Burial will be in the Leitchfield Memory Gardens.
