A woman has been arrested after trying to kill a woman by strangling and assaulting the victim and then setting her house on fire.

Kentucky State Police said troopers responded on December 6 to a residence in Freeburn in Pike County after an unresponsive woman was found near her home.

Upon arriving at the scene, troopers located Nancy Gearles, of Freeburn, unresponsive and lying on a bench near her residence.

Gearles, according to state police, was suffering from multiple lacerations, bruising and burns to various parts of her body. Additionally, her eyes were swollen shut.

Troopers also discovered that her residence had recently been set on fire, state police said.

The investigation led troopers to arrest 28-year-old Angel J. Hunt, of nearby Wharncliffe, West Virginia, on Monday. She was charged with attempted murder, first-degree arson, first-degree assault, and first-degree strangulation.

Hunt was lodged in the Pike County Detention Center.
