Two people were killed when a vehicle failed to yield at an intersection in Lewis County.

Kentucky State Police said troopers responded 3:05 Thursday afternoon at 3:05 to a double-fatality accident at the intersection of Hwy 9 and Hwy 59 in Lewis County.

State police said its investigation determined that 40-year-old Amber N. Cole, of Morehead, and her passenger, 39-year-old Gary D. Cole, also of Morehead, were traveling south in a 2015 Jeep Patriot on Hwy 59.

“As they attempted to proceed through the intersection at Hwy 9,” state police said, “they failed to yield to a westbound commercial vehicle,” being driven by 32-year-old Cody Reed, of Tollesboro.

Both Coles were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Lewis County Coroner’s Office.

Reed was not injured.

Police did not reveal the relationship between the two Coles.
