Clydie Mae Roof, age 76, of Shrewsbury, KY, passed away Thursday, (December 11, 2025) at her residence with her family by her side. She was born on May 6, 1949 in Grayson County, KY, the daughter of the late Willard and Molly VanMeter Constant.
She was one of the most grateful and kind people you could ever meet and many came to rely on her. She carried a positive spirit everywhere she went, always offering encouragement and never said anything negative. She was saved as a little girl in a one-room schoolhouse and carried her faith with her throughout her life and was a member of the Broadway Missionary Baptist Church for 42 years.
She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and cooking for her family. One of the most important things to her was cooking meals that would bring her family together including sneaking the grandkids ice cream. She never missed a chance to share stories about her childhood and her ten siblings. Known far and wide for her homemade candy, she poured love into everything she made.
In 1967, she married the love of her life, Billy, and remained his devoted and dedicated partner. She was a best friend to every member of her family and truly never met a stranger. Above all, she cherished her role as a Mom and Nanny and the deep love she had for her family.
She is survived by her husband Billy Roof; children, Darrell Roof (Sandi), Teresa Roof Childress , and David Roof (Sabrina) all of Shrewsbury; seven grandchildren, Stetson Roof (Julie), Weston Roof, Tannan Pohlman (Tony), Molly Fisher (Michael), Ally Roof, Dylan Benningfield, and Ella Simon (Damon); six great-grandchildren, Saylor, Briggs, and Jett Pohlman, MJ Fisher, Mason Benningfield; one step-grandson, Alex Whitaker and two step-great-grandsons, Jake and Lane Pohlman; one brother, Herman Constant of Hart County; one brother-in-law, Dudley Decker and two special caretakers, Kate Wingham and Addie Hodges. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Stanley, Rudolph, Clarence, Denver, Douglas and Rodney Constant; sisters, Elizabeth Decker, Linda White and Ida Decker; and her son-in-law, Marty Childress.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, (December 16, 2025) at the Broadway Missionary Baptist Church in Leitchfield. Bro. Billy Bertram and Bro. Kenny Decker will be officiating. Burial will be in the Shrewsbury Cemetery.
