Marion Thomas “Tommy” Morrison, age 97, passed away peacefully at his home on December 11, 2025. He was born April 29, 1928 and was preceded in death by his wife Gladys (Haycraft) Morrison; a son, Ronald Morrison; a son-in-law, G.L. Hayes; and a sister, Rena Dennison.

He leaves behind two daughters, Mary Jo Hayes and Nancy Haycraft (Darrell); one son, John Morrison; one grandson, Briar Morrison; five step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren.

Tommy learned about hardships early on as his mother, Laura Mattingly Morrison passed away when he was only three months old. His father, Basil Morrison, along with help of his grandmother, Belle Lynch Morrison, instilled a love for God into him before her passing when Tommy was nine years old.

He attended a one-room school for primary classes but graduated from Clarkson High School. He was the last surviving member of the graduating class of 1946. However, his real learning came from living through the depression. Being raised on a farm, it was understood that he, too, would be a farmer.

He loved the land. Reading was a passion he used to become very knowledgeable about all sorts of things. A love of music developed and he became the most under-rated guitar player around. He played not only at home but at several community churches.

He was also interested in woodworking and became a skilled craftsman, building several houses in the county and working on Leitchfield Deposit Bank and Grayson Manor Nursing Home.

His passion in later years was toy-making. He loved the challenge of making the finer pieces. Cars, trucks, tractors and trains were his favorites with a grandfather clock or two thrown in for fun. They say you can tell a man’s worth by the number of friends he has. Tommy was wealthy, indeed. Tommy Morrison was a good man who lived a good life, who loved and was loved.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, (December 18, 2025) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Burial will be in the Hanging Rock Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. Thursday until time of services.
