It was an early Christmas for the Jeffersontown Police Department as officers discovered over 50 pounds of methamphetamine wrapped as presents.
Jeffersontown police, working with Kentucky State Police and the DEA, seized 55 pounds of methamphetamine “wrapped to resemble Christmas presents” on Monday, according to the Jeffersontown PD.
The seizure occurred in the 11500 block of Bluegrass Parkway, a business district in northwestern Jeffersontown, and just south of Middletown, when a K-9 officer “alerted to the presence of narcotics during an exterior sniff of the vehicle,” Jeffersontown PD said in a social media post.
Police arrested 23-year-old Jacob Talamantes, of Nebraska, who told authorities that he was on his way to Iowa with the drugs.
He was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and lodged in Louisville Metro Corrections.
“No amount of festive wrapping can disguise the harm these drugs inflict on families and communities,” Jeffersontown PD Chief Richard Sanders said about the arrest. “The coordinated efforts of partner agencies ensured these holiday-wrapped packages never reached the streets.”
