
Two people have perished in a residential fire in eastern Kentucky.
Kentucky State Police said the fire occurred Monday afternoon at a residence on Hen Pen Branch Road in Melvin, a small community in Floyd County.
State police said the investigation showed that “emergency personnel located two deceased individuals inside the residence.”
The bodies were transported to the state Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy and identification.
The cause of the fire and the cause of death remain under investigation.
The investigation is being conducted by KSP Det. Matthew Smith. He was assisted at the scene by the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, Southeast Volunteer Fire Department and the state Fire Marshal’s Office.
