A driver was seriously injured after crashing on Shrewsbury Road (Hwy 187).
Grayson County Deputies Joel Baker and Philip Wilt, the Leitchfield Fire Department and EMS responded to the wreck Monday evening at midnight in the 6300 block of Shrewsbury Road.
Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found that a southbound Ford Escape had crossed into the northbound lane and left the roadway. The vehicle struck a culvert and went airborne for approximately 30 feet.
The Ford then struck a small tree and came to rest on its side just next to the roadway.
The 19-year-old male driver (his address is in Bowling Green, but the car is licensed to a Grayson Co. resident) was transported by EMS to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center where he was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital.
It was initially thought that the vehicle struck someone who was walking on the roadway, but firefighters and deputies searched extensively for a victim but did not locate anyone.
