An 80-year-old Nelson County man was shot and killed after pointing a firearm at police.
The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team responded to a deputy-involved shooting in Nelson County Wednesday afternoon at approximately 1:20.
State police said the investigation showed that an employee at the Nelson County Humane Society contacted 911 after Norman Perkins, of New Haven, “became disorderly inside the premises and threatened them with a firearm.”
Perkins left the humane society as he traveled north on Hwy 31-E toward Bardstown. A short time later, Nelson County deputies located Perkin traveling east on Bloomfield Road (Hwy 62).
A traffic stop was initiated, but Perkins refused to pull over before stopping in a Speedy Mart parking lot at 603 Bloomfield Road.
While deputies were attempting to make contact with Perkins, he raised and pointed a firearm at the deputies, according to KSP.
Both deputies shot at the suspect, killing Perkins.
The investigation remains ongoing.
