A Nelson County woman has been sentenced on federal child sexual exploitation charges.
U.S. Attorney Kyle G. Bumgarner for the Western District of Kentucky and Special Agent in Charge Rana Saoud of Homeland Security Investigations announced earlier this week that Kathleen Flener, 27, of Boston, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison on two counts of sexual exploitation of a child and distribution of child pornography (based on her state charges, the victims were under the age of 12).
There is no parole in the federal system.
Once released, Flener will serve 30 years of supervised released. She was additionally ordered by the court to pay $6,000 in restitution — $3,000 to each victim.
Prosecutors said Flener used an online social media application to distribute two sexually explicit images of the minor victims to an adult male living in Australia.
Flener was arrested on state charges by Kentucky State Police on December 7, 2024. She was charged with distribution of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor (victim under the age of 12) and promoting a minor in a sexual performance.
