A man was shot and killed after charging at officers with a knife, according to Kentucky State Police.
The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team was requested to investigate an officer-involved shooting in Danville on Sunday night at approximately 9:40.
The state police investigation shows that the Danville Police Department received a call about an armed, suicidal subject at an apartment complex on Centre Estates Drive in Danville.
When officers arrived, the individual, 29-year-old Cody Downey, of Danville, “charged officers with a knife,” as a Danville officer shot Downey, state police said in a press release.
He was transported to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased by the Boyle County Coroner’s Office.
The investigation is ongoing.
