An Ohio County man has been arrested after stealing a vehicle from an elementary school.
The Ohio County Sheriff’s Office said deputies received a report of a vehicle being stolen from Horse Branch Elementary School on Wednesday evening at approximately 6:00.
“Deputies responded to the area, gathered information, and began tracking the vehicle using its onboard GPS system,” the sheriff’s office said.
During this time, Grayson County deputies were alerted by Ohio County that the vehicle was traveling toward Grayson County.
Several minutes later, local law enforcement was notified that the vehicle was no longer traveling toward Grayson County, as Ohio County deputies located the vehicle in Olaton where police conducted a traffic stop in the 6000 block of Cedar Grove Road.
The driver, 42-year-old Jimmy D. Netherton, of Fordsville, was taken into custody and lodged in the Ohio County Detention Center. He was charged with theft by unlawful taking (automobile, more than $10,000, less than $1 million), possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and tampering with physical evidence.
Netherton is being held on a $10,000 cash bond.
The suspect is a four-time felon after being convicted of complicity to possession of methamphetamine, complicity to possession of heroin, complicity to receive stolen property (firearm), and complicity to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The convictions came in Jefferson County in March 2023, according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections.
He is on probation until July 2028.
