A man has been charged with attempted murder following a road rage incident where the suspect fired a gun into a vehicle in LaRue County.
The incident began on January 5 on Hwy 31-E in Hart County and ended at a gas station in Magnolia, in LaRue County, when 25-year-old Jason A. McCormick, of Magnolia, fired a handgun into the passenger side window of a vehicle, according to The News-Enterprise. No one was struck by the gunfire.
The shooting was caught on the gas station surveillance video.
McCormick was initially arrested by LaRue County deputies and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment (discharge of a firearm) and second-degree criminal mischief.
When he appeared for arraignment, though, the wanton endangerment charge was upgraded to attempted murder. A LaRue County Grand Jury followed suit earlier this week, indicting McCormick for attempted murder along with second-degree criminal mischief.
The County Attorney for LaRue County, John Nicholas, said the charge was upgraded after watching surveillance video which showed the suspect firing the gun at the victim and “his belief that the accused showed a clear intent to harm another,” according to a report by The News-Enterprise.
McCormick faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
The suspect is lodged in the LaRue County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond.
