A Leitchfield man has been arrested after allegedly kicking in two doors of a law office and destroying property inside the business as well as damaging a police cruiser.
The incident began at 8:30 Thursday night when Leitchfield Police Department Officers Wally Ritter and Tamara Jupin and Grayson County Deputies Hunter Miller and Caleb Fisher responded to the report of a “disorderly male” in the parking lot of a smoke shop in the 700 block of Brandenburg Road, according to the arrest citation.
While police were en route, they were informed by Central Dispatch that the suspect was breaking into Hines Law Office, which is adjacent to the smoke shop.
When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they discovered the front door of the business had been kicked open and the “internal” door “literally kicked in half,” the citation states.
Police then found 34-year-old Bryce E. Sadler sitting in a chair in the office. He was taken into custody.
The suspect “smelled strongly of alcoholic beverages, and there (were) multiple open containers in the building,” according to the citation.
Once placed in the back of a cruiser, the citation says that Sadler “began screaming and shouting inside the vehicle, loud enough we could hear him inside the building.”
Sadler then maneuvered his way out of the seatbelt as he began kicking the windows of the cruiser and “continually screaming to let him out.”
“During this, Sadler was able to slide his handcuffs and hands in front of him. When I (Ritter) got in my vehicle he kicked the window and door loud enough, multiple times, I thought he busted it open, officers behind me stated that the door itself was bowing,” the citations states.
Sadler was given commands to stop, or he would be pepper sprayed. The suspect, though, continued, resulting in Ritter pepper spraying Sadler.
Once at the Grayson County Detention Center, “deputy jailers had to physically carry him … to get him into the jail …,” according to the citation.
Sadler was charged with first-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, second-degree disorderly conduct, third-degree attempted escape, and alcohol intoxication in a public place.
Additional charges will be filed, as police are awaiting an estimate regarding the (dollar) amount of damage inflicted on the law office, according to the citation.
Sadler was also served with two warrants out of Hardin County.
Arrest history
Sadler’s arrest history dates back 15 years and includes arrests for possession of cocaine, DUI, criminal possession of a forged instrument, identity theft, multiple parole violations, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, illegal possession of a legend drug, and domestic violence assault, according to online records.
In addition to Grayson County, Sadler’s arrests have come in Hardin, Bullitt, Hopkins, and Daviess counties.
According to Kentucky Department of Corrections, a Bryce Sadler was released from Little Sandy Correctional Complex in Elliott County in February 2024. It’s unclear how much prison time he served.
