A joint effort involving multiple Grayson County first responder agencies rescued a juvenile after he fell down a steep, ice-covered hill onto a frozen Rough River Lake.
The Leitchfield Fire Department, Grayson County Deputies Joel Baker and Philip Wilt and EMS responded to the incident in the 6800 block of Lilac Road on Monday morning at 3:11.
Upon arriving at the scene, they found a 17-year-old male had “started out a side door (of his residence), slipped and fell all the way down to the lake,” Leitchfield Fire Chief Tim Duvall said. Duvall added that the hill was approximately 35 feet “straight down.”
The juvenile suffered a right leg injury.
With the teen unable to climb the ice-covered hill, Leitchfield FD rigged a rope system “and went down and got him,” Duvall said.
Leitchfield firefighters and Baker and Wilt, along with EMS personnel, participated in the rescue where the juvenile was able to walk up the hill using the rope system, with assistance from first responders.
“It was a joint effort,” Duvall said.
The juvenile refused transport to the hospital.
