A freshly hired fire chief in Monticello courageously pulled an elderly man from a burning home.
The Monticello Fire Department said in a social media post that “newly hired chief Kody Ragan saved a man’s life on Sunday morning.”
“Firefighters responded to a structure fire on Tennessee Ave with one resident still inside the smoke-filled house. Chief Ragan was able to access the elderly man and bring him out of the structure as units were getting on scene,” the fire department said.
The man pulled from the fire was transported to a local hospital.
Firefighters contained the blaze to one room of the residence.
Ragan has been working as a firefighter in Wayne County for eight years. He was sworn-in as Monticello fire chief on Friday.
“This was the first fire call for the newly hired Chief Ragan,” according to the fire department.
