
Two Grayson County schools won their respective Governor’s Cup District Competition.
The Grayson County High School Academic Team won the district title as they won first place in both Quick Recall and Future Problem Solving.
Individual results
- General Knowledge: Jocey Stinnett, second place; Garon Johnson, fourth place.
- Math: Nolan Rister, first place; Hunter Hayes, second place; Olivia Pons, third place.
- Science: Olivia Pons, first place; Nolan Rister, fourth place.
- Social Studies: Garon Johnson, third place; Adyson Parker, fourth place.
- Arts and Humanities: Garon Johnson, first place; Jocey Stinnett, second place; Derek Mudd, fourth place.
- Language Arts: Peyton Decker, third place; Derek Mudd, fourth place; Jocey Stinnett, fifth place.
- Composition: Peyton Decker, second place; Derek Mudd, fifth place.
All the above students will move on to compete in Region 2 competition later this month, according to the school district.
The team is co-coached by Erina Duvall, Priscilla Gordeuk and Adam Spinks along with assistant coach Will Johnson.
Clarkson tops district
The Clarkson Elementary School Academic Team also took the District Championship at the competition, with Caneyville in a tight race for the runner-up spot.
Clarkson’s Quick Recall team of Addison Meredith, Katelyn Crume, Zac Collier, Reagan Meredith, and Landen Swanston took first place in the event.
Caneyville took second place in Quick Recall and first in Future Problem Solving.
“Individual assessment successes ultimately put the Redhawks on top,” the school district said.

Caneyville: Math – Jake Smith, third place; Science – Kylo Mercado, first place and Sagan Louden, second place; Social Studies – Henry Bohannon, fifth place; Language Arts – Anna Napier, third place and Owen Neely, fifth place; Arts and Humanities – Kylo Mercado, third place; Composition – Lexi Geary, fourth place.
Lawler: Math – Carter Smith, first place; Science – Dean Miller, fourth place; Social Studies – Maggie Saltsman, second place; Language Arts and Arts and Humanities – McKinley Gary, fourth place; Composition – McKinley Gary, first place and Maebry Herrington, fifth place.
Wilkey: Math – Rainen Chhor, second place and Collin Logsdon, fourth place; Science – Ben Embry, fifth place; Social Studies – Ellie Stamper, third place and Collin Logsdon, fourth place; Language Arts – Ellie Stamper, second place; Composition – Kenly Taylor, third place.
The Redhawks are coached by Julie Decker, Amy Williams and Sonya Rogers.
