A LaRue County man has died in a crash on I-65 in Hardin County.

Kentucky State Police said troopers responded to the accident on Monday morning at approximately 9:45 at the 103-mile marker of northbound I-65.

The state police investigation showed that traffic had slowed due to a previous collision near the 106-mile marker when a Hyundai Elantra, being driven by 29-year-old Drew Cookenmaster, of Hodgenville, struck the rear of a tractor-trailer, being driven by 52-year-old Shakisha Brewington, of Schertz, Texas.

Cookenmaster was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Hardin County Coroner’s Office. Brewington was not injured.

The northbound lanes of I-65 at the Joe Prather Highway exit were closed for approximately three hours as troopers reconstructed the collision.

The investigation is ongoing and being led by Trooper Scott Wheatley.
