A search and rescue operation is underway in western Kentucky after a man is thought to have jumped from a bridge.

Kentucky State Police said that on Tuesday afternoon at approximately 3:15, troopers received a report that “a male individual (was) on the Cumberland River bridge on US Highway 62 connecting Lyon and Livingston counties.”

Shortly after the original 911 call, witnesses “reported the man had jumped,” state police said in a press release.

Multiple first responder agencies arrived at the scene and utilized boats and drones to search for the man.

Later, an abandoned vehicle belonging to 22-year-old Dakota Perry, of Charlotte, North Carolina, was located on Hwy 62 near the Kentucky Dam in Marshall County.

“After conversations with witnesses,” state police said, “it is believed Perry is the male who jumped from the bridge.”

Search and rescue operations continue in and around Cumberland River.
