An eastern Kentucky man is facing up to 10 years in prison after putting methamphetamine in his girlfriend’s coffee.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrested 38-year-old Shawn Asher, of London, on Monday after he, on Christmas morning, put methamphetamine in his girlfriend’s coffee as she watched her child open presents.

Asher told the victim as she drank the coffee that she was “about to find out what he had done,” according to the sheriff’s office.

He additionally planted needles in her vehicle.

“The victim also stated that Asher had made threats to cause her bodily harm and that she was afraid of him because he is much bigger than she is,” the sheriff’s office stated. “The victim told the officer that Asher can get violent and has numerous times in the past involving her.”

The woman went to the hospital on December 26 to have lab work done. Police said the results came back positive for methamphetamine.

Asher was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center where he’s been charged with second-degree assault, a class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. He’s no longer listed as an inmate.
