70-year-man perishes in house fire

A man has died in a residential fire in eastern Kentucky.

The blaze happened on Saturday morning at approximately 7:40 on Hwy 343 in McRoberts in Letcher County, according to Kentucky State Police.

Troopers and local first responders arrived at the scene, as the residence was fully engulfed in flames. After the fire was extinguished, emergency personnel conducted a search of the structure for the homeowner, 70-year-old Robert Mullins.

During the search, state police said a body was located inside the residence and “is believed to be Mr. Mullins.”

He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Letcher County Coroner’s Office.

At this time, foul play is not suspected.

The remains were transported to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy.

The investigation is ongoing and is being led by KSP Det. Scott Caudill and the state Fire Marshal’s Office.
