
Grayson County opened the 2026 outdoor track & field season at home on Saturday and turned in a balanced performance on both sides, finishing 3rd in the girls standings (70 points) and 3rd in the boys standings (70 points). In the combined scoring, Grayson County placed 3rd overall with 140 points.
Grayson County event wins
Grayson County picked up multiple event titles to highlight the opening meet:
- Boys 4×200 Relay: 1st (1:54.00) — Austin Tilford, Chase Frank, Josh Maddox, Jackson Watson
- Boys Pole Vault: 1st (7-00) — Cooper Justis
- Boys 300m Hurdles: 1st (48.00) — Nathan Henderson
- Girls 300m Hurdles: 1st (58.09) — Jayden Nugent
- Girls High Jump: 1st (4-04) — Bryanna Newton
Big points across relays, sprints, hurdles, and field
The Cougars and Lady Cougars stacked points in a variety of areas, starting with the relays. The girls 4×200 quartet (Bryanna Newton, Kennedy Decker, Keilan Hayes, Emri Clemons) finished 2nd (2:17.00), and the girls 4×100 team (Josey Smith, Cindy Cruz, Allie Baker, Elizabeth Haycraft) placed 3rd (1:00.00).
In the girls 4×400, Grayson County took 4th (5:19.00) with Nugent, Josey Smith, Jessy Smith, and Reagan Coffey.
On the boys side, Grayson County also scored in the longer relays with a 4th-place 4×800 (11:12.00) and a 4th-place 4×400 (4:41.00).
Individually, Jayden Nugent doubled up with a runner-up finish in the 100m hurdles (21.34) and the win in the 300m hurdles (58.09) to deliver a big early-season hurdle day.
Elizabeth Haycraft picked up key sprint points by tying for 2nd in the 100m dash (13.78) and placing 5th in the 200m (29.93).
In the 400, Reagan Coffey finished 2nd (1:12.00) to add another high-value result.
In the field events, the Cougars were especially strong:
- Jackson Watson: 2nd in Long Jump (17-00)
- Carson Keown: 2nd in Discus (99-09) and 2nd in Shot Put (35-11.50)
- Josiah Judd: 2nd in Triple Jump (29-06) and also scored in long jump
- Austin Tilford: 3rd in Triple Jump (29-05) (in addition to running on the winning 4×200)
- Brett Butler: scored in High Jump (5-00)
For the Lady Cougars, Keilan Hayes added a big field-event finish as the pole vault runner-up (7-00), and Grayson County scored in both throws through Cheza Frank (points in discus and shot put).
