An Elizabethtown man has been formally accused of killing his nursing home-bound mother.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of January 2, 2026, when the Radcliff Police Department responded to Signature HealthCARE at North Hardin Rehab & Wellness Center, at 599 Rogersville Road in Radcliff, on the report of a stabbing, Radcliff Police Chief Jeff Cross told The News-Enterprise.

When police arrived on the scene, officers made contact with 33-year-old Joseph Curtis, who was drenched in blood in the facility’s commons area. Police then checked the room Curtis had just exited and found his mother had been stabbed to death.

The News-Enterprise reports that Curtis “reportedly” confessed to killing his mother. His motive, though, remains a mystery.

Curtis was indicted earlier this month for murder (domestic violence). He is lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center on a $500,000 cash bond.
