A former student-athlete at the University of Kentucky is facing a manslaughter charge after it was discovered that a deceased infant found in her closet was born alive.
The charges arose after police received a tip and responded to Snelling’s Park Avenue residence where a deceased infant was found in a garbage bag in a closet. Snelling admitted to police that she gave birth to the baby.
The Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office found that the infant was born alive, resulting in a Fayette County Grand Jury recently indicting Snelling for first-degree manslaughter, a class B felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison, along with all the original counts, according to a report by the Lexington Herald-Leader.
Snelling who is from White Pine, Tennessee, previously withdrew from UK.
She also previously pled not guilty to all the original charges. She posted a $100,000 bond, according to WLEX.com, and was placed on home incarceration where she was ordered to reside with her parents in Tennessee.
It’s unclear when she will be returned to Kentucky.
